In all, dozens of six, eight and ten-postcard sets were published for the 4th of July celebration in the early years of the 20th century by a myriad of publishers. These rank among the most patriotic and colorful of all American holiday postcards.

In 1941 seas were filled with freight and cargo ships carrying troops and battle supplies.   America no longer had the luxury or the resources to import goods such as sugar.  Shortages raged throughout the country, forcing Uncle Sam to begin rationing sugar in 1942.

Donald Blake was a prominent and prolific Florida artist, and the full extent of his talent is just being rediscovered. Although skilled in many art media, his love of landscape painting comes to life through vibrant and expressive watercolors and oil paintings.

A good background education is an important tool in many areas of life, even in antique furniture. I consider my educational opportunities to have been properly presented to me and it was my job to take from it what I could. On the other hand the education presented to my children was less than what I would have hoped and now I am seeing signs of my worst fears not so much in my children directly as in the children of that era, especially in the harder sciences.
